Equine Training
REQUIREMENT: |
| The Horse must complete a 10 mile ride with minimal packs in two hours. |
| The horse must demonstrate the ability to stand tied to a high line overnight. |
| The horse must demonstrate the ability to accept hobbles. |
| The horse must demonstrate it can be ponyed and can pony another horse. |
| The horse must show willingness to cross streams. |
| The horse must show willingness to cross bridges. |
| The horse must demonstrate side passing, turns on the forehand and haunches and back easily. |
| The horse must be willing to stand tied and remain under control as other horses depart the area. |
| The horse must be sociable around other horses and dogs. |
| The horse must be a minimum of four years old |
| The horse must be shod all year around or fitted with an easy boot type hoof protection. |
| The horse must be in sound physical condition to become certified. |
| The horse must willingly accept all packs and mission equipment. |
| The horse must be willing s to accept various distractions such as motorbikes, backpackers, llamas, tents, helicopters, police sirens and all manner of loud noises. |
| The horse must be willing to accept a rope under tail. |
| The horse must be willing to be tailed up a steep hill. |
| The horse must be willing to stand quietly while the rider puts on a slicker or opens a map. |
| The horse must remain under control while riding with a group at all gaits. |
| The horse must stand quietly while being mounted or dismounted from either side. |
| The horse must be willing to leave and be left by other horses. |
| The horse must remain under control at all times. |
