A couple of years ago Terry Nowacki of Equine Detection Services conducted a scent detection clinic for us. The nose basket fitted to the horse prevents him from nibbling while he is scent detecting and serves to remind him this is business not play.
 

At least once a year we introduce our horses to lights and sirens. At first they are not sure they want anything to do with it. Soon it becomes no big deal.
